Goal and the objectives of the Module: The course “Principles of Finance” is a core foundational course for students enrolled in the Bachelor Study Program in “Finance” at the Faculty of Economy, University of Tirana. It provides students with essential knowledge for the development of a solid financial professional culture, which is further deepened and specialized in subsequent years of study.
The main objective of the course is to strengthen students’ capacities in sustainability-related concepts and knowledge within the field of finance. It provides foundational understanding of the financial system, financial intermediation, public finance, international finance, financial markets, and investment principles. Furthermore, the course aims to deepen students’ knowledge of, and engagement with, European Union policies and directives related to the European Green Deal, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sustainable risk management, green financial instruments, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks, green insurance, and green taxation, as well as their implications for individuals, businesses, and government institutions.
The course and its curriculum are carefully designed as a key component of students’ professional development. The course aims to provide the necessary and sufficient theoretical foundations to enable students to successfully engage with subsequent analytical courses that complete their academic studies.
Jean Monnet Module “ Principles of Finance”- Bachelor Study Program in “Business Administration“
The course “Principles of Finance” provides Business Administration students with fundamental financial concepts and an understanding of the financial environment in which individuals, businesses, and governments operate. It introduces key methods for valuing financial assets and investments, emphasizing the time value of money as a core valuation principle.
The course examines the structure and functions of the financial system, with reference to the Albanian context, and analyzes financial assets through basic financial statements. It also addresses risk and risk management techniques, including diversification and insurance.
Topics include financial markets, instruments, and institutions, personal finance, business finance decisions, and an overview of public finance and fiscal policy.
One of the goals of the project is to deepen students’ understanding by providing direct insights into EU policies and directives related to the Green Deal, SDGs, sustainable risk management, green financial instruments, ESGs, green insurance, and green taxation, as they impact individuals, businesses, and governments. By focusing on green projects, renewable energy, and recycling, businesses can become more appealing to shareholders and creditors seeking long-term, sustainable strategies.
